Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The one-time leader was convicted of orchestrating a military coup in September and sentenced more than 27 years in incarceration, but he was staying under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" were revealed.

Context of Sentencing
